GUM DISEASE

A warning sign of gum disease is bleeding gums. Initial treatment nowadays has moved away from surgical treatment and is aimed at deep scaling ie having the roots of your teeth scaled usually by an ultrasconic scaler. You will usually need four visits to treat gum disease and after that regular follow-ups are essential to ensure a successful outcome. Gum disease has been linked to

cardiovascular disease. Therefore we really encourage males of the age 40-50 to take good care of their gums especially if there is a history of heart disease. A link has also been found between gum disease and preterm labour, another reason for expectant mums to take good care of their gums.
